Blogging best practices center more on the target audience and conceptual pretenses. You do still have to worry about the way the blog looks and how its audience sees it. For the most part the blogging software takes care of many of the concerns that we faced with website best practices. If you have questions about the best practices for putting together a website then please refer to my article on website best practices. I have listed several best practices and ideologies for blogging. Implementing these will help you to create the type of online reputation that you desire and aid you in managing your online reputation.

Understand and be able to deal with the concept that your target audience is taking charge
Understand and be able to leverage that most people trust other consumer opinions over all others
Understand that your marketplace is going to be talked about even if you choose not to engage in the discussion
Blogs are not special or new. In fact, blog tools are often easier to use and understand than most free email services.
A blog is just another tool to help establish and manage your online reputation.
Everyone, especially target market consumers, can quickly publish their opinion, and others can easily find it quickly
Business blogging is publishing a message (pushing) and engaging in the conversation with your target market (pulling).
Listen to others in the blogosphere. Start listening to what is going on in your marketplace, or consider hiring a company to monitor and report on the blogging in your target market. There are varieties of tools that can help you do this, but this part of your online reputation management is a full time job.
Create an atmosphere of conservative creativity within your organization and define what is acceptable to blog about and what is not. Create a public disclosure policy and disclose it to your employees. Even if your company is not going to engage in blogging, you need to communicate what is acceptable and what is not acceptable to employees.

Are you looking to add audio to your web site? There is plenty of choice regarding easy to use flash streaming audio software. I have reviewed over 20 products and they are all fairly easy to use and all cost less than $100. But there are some small differences to these programs which could cause you problems if you make the wrong choice. After reading this report you will be able to buy your streaming audio software knowing you have made the right decision.

So hear are a few questions to ask yourself before you buy your flash streaming audio software.

1. What is your audio going to consist of, voice, music?
2. How long is your audio going to be? 30 seconds? 30 hours?
3. How many visitors are you expecting on your web site per month?
4. Do you want your visitors to be able to download your mp3s?
5. What type of controls/buttons do you want?
6. Do you want to automatically add background music tracks?
7. can you edit the html on your web site?

I will go though each question to explain why this should affect your decision.

1. Do you require HiFi sound, or you go to simply put your voice on your site? The higher the quality the larger the file is going to be. Only one product provides a HiFi option and that is MP3 Sound Stream HiFi Audio Stream. Most other programs allow you to select the quality of the audio.

2. Will you be using short voice tracks of a few minutes? If your track is longer you will need a program that does not embed the mp3 file into the Flash file (swf). Large swf files will take a long time to load but if the mp3 is separate the button will load quickly and the mp3 will start to stream almost instantaneously.

3. If you are using long audio tracks and have a high number of visitors your hosting company may charge you for extra band width or even cut off your web site. For example, if you have one audio track of 30mb in size and you have 10,000 visitors listening to it this would take 300gb of bandwidth. So if you are considering putting large audio files on your site check with your hosting company first. You may wish to consider using a subscription service like Audio Generator as this could work out cheaper than extra bandwidth charges.

4. If you want your visitors to be able to download your mp3 files so they can listen to them later, on their computer or mp3 player, then using a program that has the mp3 embedding in the flash file means you will need to upload an extra copy of the mp3. Programs with embedded mp3 files are useful if you DON’T what your visitors to download your audio file.

5. Some programs supply a wide choice of button styles and colours, other just give one button style. Make sure you are happy with the styles available.

6. If you want to easily add background music some programs have this built in. Other programs you will need to use audio editing software to mix in the background music.

7. If you are using an online website builder or free blogging service you may not be able to add audio to your web site. Check with your provider to see if you can edit the html code and upload swf and mp3 files

Once you have considered all these questions take a look at the comparison chart at WebsiteAudioReviews.com and you will find the right streaming audio software for you. www.websiteaudioreviews.com/compare.html

Search Engines Need a Steady Flow of Content

Friday, November 14th, 2008

The Internet is full of Saturday Morning Bloggers. These bloggers ignore their blogs all week, then they post a few dozen articles in their blog and then spend a few hours adding comments to other blogs. This is a great way to spend a Saturday, but it provides very little SEO marketing benefits.

Search engines need a steady flow of comments. Most blogs that appear in a web search have a post that has been published within the last few hours. Dozens of blog search engines operate for the sole purpose of alerting the big five search engines of new content. The posts that you publish on Saturday are already out of the lists by Sunday afternoon. That is why it is important to provide the search engines with fresh content daily.

A steady stream of content is so important that some blog software programs have a delayed publishing plug-in. This lets the blogger upload multiple articles at one time, but it waits until a pre-determined time to publish each one. This is a great idea, but it is only half the solution.

The blog search engines must be pinged shortly after the blog is posted. There are several good pinging services on the web. Most of them ping a few dozen blog search engines, telling them that your blog has new content.

This confuses most bloggers. They believe that tagging an article with a blog search engine like Technorati or Del.icio.us is all they need to do. Tagging is a method of introducing a list of your articles to potential readers. Tagging has nothing to do with building in-bound links or a web pages rank. Tagging is for peoples benefits. Pinging is for the benefit of search engines.

Publishing one blog a day and then pinging the blog search engines will ensure that the big five search engines never forget your blog. www.weblogs.com gives a visual of how blog pinging works. Each of the blog posts that appear on the page have pinged the blog search engines.

An overly simplified method of explaining pinging is by comparing it to crawling a webpage. Instead of waiting for a robot to crawl the blog, ping the search engine while the news is still fresh.

Another excellent strategy is to invite your reader to leave a comment. Comments are picked up by search engines as new content. The only problem with allowing comments it the potential from comment spam.

Viral Marketing Techniques Every Web Site Should Be Using

Viral marketing can work wonders for any business, web site or
product. It can be a great source of sales leads, one-way links
and targeted traffic. Yet, many marketers are not taking full
advantage of this ‘viral factor‘ in their marketing
efforts.

How about you? Are you using any viral marketing methods with
your web site? Or does the word ‘viral’ make you cringe?

Many people believe ‘viral marketing’ is a myth, one of those
Internet follies that only happens on rare occasions when some
fantastic product or site comes along.

In reality, viral marketing techniques can be used by any web
site - big or small. They can be used by any marketer who takes
the time to put some simple steps into place. Viral marketing
done right‘ can have many benefits. It will: -
increase your link popularity (often one way links) - increase
targeted traffic to your site - build your brand recognition -
create targeted leads for your products - automate your
marketing efforts

Here are some simple viral marketing techniques you can try with
your web site, product or business:

1. Word of Mouth - We have all seen this phenomenon
displayed with many products . People spread the word about some
great movie or gadget and suddenly everyone knows about it.
Human nature dictates we tell our friends about some great
product we have bought or found. Nature of the beast, it’s just
the way we are - so why not take full advantage of it?

If you have a web site - put up a simple ‘tell a friend’ form so
your visitors can easily tell others about your great site. Easy
and very simple to do but many webmasters don’t do it.
Similarly, if you have a newsletter, service, product or with
any aspect of your site - just include a few sentences at the
end of your copy - asking very politely, “if you found this
service, product or web site helpful - why not tell your
friends, family and colleagues about it.”

2. Branding - Make sure you have a logo on your site or
product. Branding your site is very important if you want your
site or product to be noticed and talked about. For that matter,
a catchy brand name can be a ‘viral technique’ in itself - so
try and come up with one that springs from the lips with a
distinctive ring to it!

People recognize brands, it gives them a clear image of your
site or product. Include your brand or logo on every page of
your site and on every product, service, material coming from
your site or business.

3. eBooks - Savvy marketers jumped on this new invention
very quickly, they knew the ‘viral’ power of these little
ebooks. Ebooks are electronic files that can be downloaded from
any web site and distributed easily around the web. You can also
have other webmasters or marketers, ‘re-brand’ these ebooks with
their own links. High quality ebooks get passed along very
quickly and are great viral tools.

Anyone can write a simple ebook on the topic of their site. If
you can’t write, just get permission to use a collection of
articles from the numerous ‘article directories’ on the web such
as www.ezinearticles.com or www.goarticles.com . Ebook compiling
software (in both .exe or pdf format) is relatively cheap or can
be found for free on the net. Just Google to find it!

4. Viral Software - Some simple software products or
applications can be very viral, often passed around or
downloaded from the web by thousands each day. These have to be
useful or handy products that the users will desire -
ecalendars, organizers, personal planners, link checking
software, and so on. Many are desktop products that sit on the
computer user’s desktop - prime location in the marketing arena.

And the best examples of this kind of viral software have the
company logo, sales message and contact email - with LIVE LINKS
to all of the above - conveniently displayed within the product.
These simple software programs can be great viral promotional
devices that spread like wildfire across the web. (get an
example of this below in the author’s resource box)

5. RSS - Newest player in the viral game! RSS which
stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’ and just by the nature of
what it does; RSS is an awesome viral tool. Originally used by
news organizations to syndicate their news stories, it is
usually associated with Blogs because blogs use an RSS feed to
distribute their content. Good quality RSS feeds are picked up
and displayed by different web sites all across the web.

Since Microsoft has announced the next version of Windows will
have RSS integrated into its operating system, new RSS
applications will take viral marketing to heights that have not
been witnessed before. Alert marketers are already gearing up
for this viral explosion.

You should also be gearing up for RSS if you haven’t already.
Using a simple site like blogger.com (owned by Google) will give
you a basic blog and RSS feed to spread your message or product
to all interested parties.

These are just some viral techniques that will help increase
your web presence. They will also boost your traffic and
increase your links. Used properly, these viral techniques will
also spread your web site, product or service around the globe.
