http://Ryans1.com How to Install a WordPress Blog Hi my name is Ryan and welcome to my video on how to create a wordpress blog. On this video, I presume you already have a domain and Web hosting. So the next step is to get a couple of more things. The first is to download the files for your blog from the wordpress website. By going to wordpress.org And hit download. It will take you to a page where you can download WordPress 2.7, which is the latest wordpress platform. Download this to your computer, and you can unzip that into a folder. That will put all of the files you need for your blog onto your computer. Now, the next thing you need to do is get this on to the Internet. So you need an FTP program to upload those files, I used filezilla. You can get for free by typing the FileZilla into Google. It’s the first result that comes up in Google, and you want to download the FileZilla client. On that page it will be the first one under Windows FileZilla-3.1.6-win-32-setup. Once you have FileZilla and all your word press files. You will want to log into your hosting account and create a database to hold your new blog. Log into your account and create a new database. It may look different depending on what Web hosting company you use. It will ask you to create a database description database user name and enter a password for the database. Once you have created a database go back to the word press files on your computer and look for wp-config-sample, now renamed that file to remove sample from the end so that file reads just w-p-config. Now double-click on it and open in notepad, and change the database name user name and password by copying and pasting from where you set up your database in your control panel to the exact same database name and password that you used to create the database. When you create your database, you will also get a local host name that you can copy and paste here too. Next log into FileZilla and locate the directory where you saved the word press files. Trevor came out during the Louisville show the other night for I Will Be Light and towards the end I brought up the local Rabbi Baruch and his wife, whom I met this week. He brought up the idea of doing Havdallah, which I was open to. Then his boss (and father-n-law), another rabbi in town, mentioned to me during breakfast this week the idea of saying a few words about Mumbai and then making the blessing over light. Seemed liked a good idea although I dont like to force these kind of things. I usually only speak if Im really feeling inspired but lately Ive been really drawing inspiration from the recent events when on stage so I figured may as well create a moment around it.

As a side note its ironic how Jews seem to feel most alive when were being killed or persecuted. Its almost like we were killed for so many thousands of years that its part of our DNA to die for God and its when we feel most like were actually alive. In todays time and in America its almost as though we fall asleep and totally feel dead because no one is trying to kill us. Anyway it was a really cool moment.

In shul today I was thinking of this idea that a person can be going through life, everything normal, the normal ups and downs, and then all of a sudden Bang. Something horrible can happen. Such tremendous darkness and evil just shoots up out of nowhere and takes a person. That kind of madness affects everyone. Evil can just come out of nowhere. I feel like as Jews in America our generation is really the first in the history of the Jews that is not in touch with this idea. We feel we will be here forever. Anyway when this kind of darkness happens they say the universe is out of whack and so the opposite acts of love and kindness happen to balance it all out. I hope that my shows and that music we make actually helps to warm up some hearts and unify people in their mission to create meaning and hope out of Gods madness.

This is exactly what the song I Will Be Light is about and the fact that Trevor who co-wrote it with me last winter was playing it and that there was a huge candle burning on stage and people with their lighters and cell phones up it really felt like one tiny moment, in one tiny city, shining in the midst of the this endless black space that we exist in. Just sparks of life, souls in bodies illuminating the great void for one small second in time before we are extinguished. Music is such an incredible force. As long as there is music there will be light.
